چکیده

This paper investigates the behavior of reinforced concrete continuous flat slabs after exposure to fire through experimental and theoretical analysis investigations were made. In the experimental part a series of tests carried out, to evaluate the effect of fire on the mechanical properties of concrete including a number of cubs and cylinders. Indirect fire exposure experiments are performed in accordance to ASTM 119-95a fire exposure curve. Three levels of temperature were investigated of 200°C, 400°C and 600°C. Exposure durations were 30, 45 and 60 minutes. Hence, structural-thermal Finite Elements analysis as a theoretical study on reinforced concrete continuous flat slabs, were carried out to study the behavior of flat slab. The mechanical properties of concrete dropped with increasing fire and endurance. The loss of failure load and bending rigidity are reduced due to the effect of fire. These losses were found to be slight in 200°C and dramatic at 600 °C. The exposure of concrete to fire has a significant influence on the mechanical properties of the continuous members.

Transient High-temperature Stress Relaxation of Prestressing Tendons in Unbonded Construction

Unbonded post-tensioned (UPT) flat plate concrete slabs are popular for modern continuous multiple bay floor assemblies due to economic and sustainability benefits (reductions in slab thickness and building selfweight) and structural advantages (decreased deflections over larger spans). Only limited research has been conducted on the performance of UPT flat plate slabs under fire conditions, ye...

Shear Capacity of Reinforced Concrete Flat Slabs Made with High-strength Concrete: A Numerical Study of the Effect of Size, Location, and Shape of the Opening (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Nowadays, concrete with strength higher than 50 MPa is utilized due to the ever increasing need for higher strength and prolonged healing properties. Despite the widespread use of high-strength concrete, only a few research projects have been conducted on the punching shear strength of high-strength concrete slabs. Reinforced concrete flat slabs are widely employed in structural systems. The lo...

Improving the Punching Shear Strength of RC Slabs by FRP and Steel Sheets

This paper deals with the modeling of punching shear failure in reinforced concrete slabs using nonlinear finite element analysis. The 3D finite element analyses (FEA) were performed with the appropriate modeling of element size and mesh, and the constitutive modeling of concrete. The FE numerical models are validated by comparing with the experimental results obtained from tested specimens and...

Non-linear Analysis of Orthotropic Composite Slabs in Fire

In this study an orthotropic slab finite element is developed to model orthotropic slabs in fire, using a layered 9-noded iso-parametric slab element and a 3-noded beam element. The element is assembled from a solid slab element which represents the continuous upper portion of the profile, and a special beam element which represents the ribbed lower portion. An equivalent width for the cross-se...

Physical Modeling of Steel Delivery during Thin Slab Continuous Casting

A full scale physical model of a thin slab caster with a four-hole design submerged entry nozzle (SEN) was constructed. On the basis of the dimensionless Reynolds and Froude similitude criteria, the fluid flow in a full-scale model is similar to that of the actual system and, hence, the data obtained from the water model can be applied to the actual system. In order to determine the optimum ope...
